Solidarity and Res-sisters

Recent collegiate discussions have focussed on the many ways in which there is clear evidence that women are at a disadvantage in academia. From a higher chance of being employed on precarious work contracts, to worse pay and conditions, and even the use of modest language instead of high praise in recommendation letters; women are at a disadvantage. Yet continual focus on the state of affairs we experience does little for morale, and instead this post  highlights the ways in which action can be taken to try to address these systematic inequalities.

While we aim to address the problem at its root, it is also significant to support each other as we individually face the politics and micro-aggressions of everyday interactions in academia. Coming together in solidarity to organize, to write, to mentor and support each other as well as to offer support to other marginalized voices are the steps by which we address the whole.
